Hi! I'm merideth Van Meter.
I am the owner and teacher at His Promises Art Studio! I am a Stokes County native and have been teaching in Stokes County Schools since 2017. Prior to that, I started my career as the Art Teacher at Summerfield Charter Academy teaching grades K-8. I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2013 where I earned my BS in Art Education (K-12).
My passion for art began when I could first pick up a pencil to draw, but my passion for teaching began during an internship my senior year of high school. I had a very inspiring art teacher throughout high school (Thad Cox) and I decided I wanted to be that inspiration for someone too.
I have had a dream of owning my own art studio since I was a little girl. I would make signs and flyers advertising my art business on my dad's computer. Since I discovered my passion for teaching, my dream has changed into an intimate art studio where kids and adults can come to learn and create.
My favorite medium is clay, specifically throwing on the potter's wheel. I am so excited to begin teaching throwing lessons at the studio! I also love to sketch, hand letter scripture and paint watercolor floral designs.
My dream day would be going on a hike, or a bike ride, playing with my boys outside, or baking a yummy dessert for my family!

hIS PROMISES Art STUDIO
His Promises is a creative studio and business with the desire to glorify His kingdom.
The name of our business came about during a difficult season in our life. We were clinging to His promises to make us whole after a season of brokenness. I began hand lettering scripture and hanging it up around our home as encouragement that He promises good to us.
Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled. -Romans 15:4
We decided to start our business and we named it His Promises. The first year was crazy successful. God planted a seed that year and gave us an amazing distraction from our trials. We were just about to take off full time with His Promises (selling our artwork and woodworking) when we found out we were pregnant with our first son. Although this was an answer to prayer, we decided it wasn't the best time to start a business. So, I moved to a job closer to home in an effort to have more time with our son. After we had the boys we stepped back from the business quite a bit as it was very time consuming and we had to prioritize our time with them. So, this is a new spin on His Promises since we aren't jumping back into taking orders and making art quite yet. Instead we are opening a studio where I can teach smaller classes and private lessons. We are so excited about His plans for this studio and how He will use this business to further His Kingdom!
