Hi! I'm merideth Van Meter.

I am the owner and teacher at His Promises Art Studio. This year will begin my 14th year of teaching art! I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Art Education (K-12). After graduation, I began my art teaching career at Summerfield Charter Academy in Summerfield, NC. After 4 years of a long commute, I was given the opportunity to come back to my roots and teach art in Stokes County! I taught at London Elementary and Walnut Cove Elementary for 4 more years. In 2021 I decided to take a leap of faith and resign from the public school system to fulfill my childhood dream of owning my own art studio. This decision was also made so that I could spend more time with my boys who were 3 and 1 at the time. I knew I still wanted to keep my momentum as a classroom art teacher and thanks to a very special family, I was encouraged to reach out to the homeschool community. What began as a handful of students, a little bit of hope and a lot of trust in The Lord, has flourished into something better than I could have dreamed. I now have 3 boys, ages 9, 7 and 2, and through this job, I have been blessed with so much extra time with them. You will see my 2 year old assistant most days tagging along with me. It truly is the best of both worlds.

My own passion for art began when I could first pick up a pencil to draw, but my passion for teaching began during an internship my senior year of high school. I had a very inspiring art teacher throughout high school (Thad Cox) and I decided I wanted to be that inspiration for someone too. God has brought me full circle as I have been able to teach the same students year after year and build the most special relationships with them.

My favorite medium is clay, especially throwing on the potter's wheel. I am so excited to begin teaching throwing lessons at the studio! I also love to sketch, hand letter scripture and paint watercolor floral designs.

My dream day would be going on a hike, or a bike ride, playing with my boys outside, or baking a yummy dessert for my family!

hIS PROMISES Art STUDIO - backstory

Picture
a lHis Promises is a creative studio and business with the desire to glorify His kingdom.
The name of our business came about during a difficult season in our life. We had just experienced two miscarriages and we were clinging to His promises to make us whole after a season of brokenness. I began hand lettering scripture and hanging it up around our home as reminders that He promises good to us.

Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled. -Romans 15:4

After several custom orders from friends we decided to start our business and we named it His Promises. The first year was crazy successful. God planted a seed that year and gave us an amazing distraction during our waiting season. We were just about to take off full time with His Promises (selling our artwork and woodworking) when we found out we were pregnant with our first son. Although this was an answer to a lot prayer, we decided it wasn't the best time to start a business. After we had our first son, we stepped back from the business quite a bit as it was very time consuming and we had to prioritize our time with him and 22 months later, his brother! As I mentioned above, I was eventually able to open the studio and of course, I chose to name it His Promises Art Studio. God knew all along that this was the plan and he has blessed us immensely these past 5, almost 6 years! I am so thankful for all of the families that have crossed our path and the relationships made throughout the years. He reminds me all the time that he has us right where we are supposed to be.
